Chief selector and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has selected new players for the Test and T20 squad for Australia and for the first time Mohammad Musa, Usman Qadir, Khushdal Shah, Kashif Bhatti and Naseem Shah have been made part of the team.
On Monday, Misbah-ul-Haq announced the teams for the two Tests in the Twenty20 series and the World Test Cricket Championship played in Australia.
The surprising selection in this regard is that of Usman Qadir, the son of the late legendary sniper Abdul Qadir, who according to Misbah-ul-Haq has been included in the T20 team due to his ‘experience playing in Australia’.
This year, 26-year-old Usman Qadir was thinking seriously about moving to Australia because he could not join the national team.
Naseem Shah, who is from the Lower Dir, is only 16 years old, while Mohammad Musa, who played in the Pakistan Super League for Islamabad United this year, is 19 years old. Both fast bowlers have been part of the Surprise Package team due to their high speed.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed has not been able to maintain a place in Pakistan’s Test and T20 team as a normal player after being removed from captaincy.
Remember that the Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday announced the removal of Sarfraz Ahmed from the leadership of the Test and T20 teams. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ehsan Mani took the stand that dismissing Sarfraz Ahmed from international cricket had affected his performance and confidence for some time.
Sarfraz Ahmed started his Test career in 2010 but returned to Test cricket in 2014 and became a reliable partner for captain Misbah-ul-Haq due to his outstanding performance in batting and wicket-keeping.
After Misbah-ul-Haq’s retirement, he became the captain of the Test team. After being disappointed with Azhar Ali’s leadership, the Pakistan Cricket Board handed over Sarfraz Ahmed the one-day captain in 2017. After the T20 World Cup in 2016, he was also appointed captain of the T20 team instead of Shahid Afridi.
The Pakistani team, led by Sarfraz Ahmed, won the Champions Trophy in 2017 and took the first position in the ICC Twenty20 World Rankings, but under the leadership of Test cricket, the Pakistani team had a series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa. I suffered a defeat and only managed to win the series against Australia.
A look at Rizwan’s career
Mohammad Rizwan, 27, hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has represented Pakistan in one Test, 32 ODIs and 13 Twenty20 Internationals so far, but in the presence of Sarfraz Ahmed, he could not get much opportunities.
The Pakistan Cricket Board relaxed a few cricketers, including Sarfraz Ahmed, in the ODI series against Australia this year, and Mohammad Rizwan took advantage of the opportunity to make centuries in Sharjah and Dubai’s one-day internationals.
Mohammad Rizwan is playing on the Sui Northern Gas team led by Misbah-ul-Haq and has done well in domestic cricket.
Mohammed Rizwan has made two centuries in the Qaid-e-Azam Trophy this season, while he has managed 31 not out, 45, 70 and 52 in the T20 Cup in Faisalabad.
Imran Khan Senior Returns
Right-arm fast bowler Imran Khan has taken 28 wickets in nine Tests but he last played in Sydney in January 2017 against Australia.
Who are Muhammad Musa, Khushdal Shah and Naseem Shah?
Mohammad Musa, 19, hails from Kohistan but has played his club cricket in Rawalpindi.
He represented Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand last year, scoring seven wickets in five matches, including a brilliant four-wicket haul against India for 67 runs.
Mohammad Musa started first class cricket last year. In this year’s Pakistan Super League, Islamabad United played seven matches and took eight wickets.
Naseem Shah is a U-19 fast bowler with experience in first-class cricket.
Kashif Bhatti is a slow left arm spinner from Nawabshah who has taken more than 300 wickets in first class cricket.
Khushdal Shah is a left-handed middle-order batsman from Bannu.
